American Eating Habits “Super-Sized”

Sponsored by:

Americans are becoming super-sized. In 22 of the 50 states, obesity rates are 20 percent or greater. And more than half of all American adults are overweight.

But with a new year upon us, a Napa dietitian says Americans can try to turn the tide to healthier eating.

Sanna Delmonico wants people to get back to real food. That means less processed food, more fruits and vegetables and more whole grains.

For those who say they´re too busy to eat healthy, she says a little bit of planning can make all the difference. Instead of grabbing Pop Tarts for a snack, she says, you can pack an apple or an orange or grab a granola bar.

But Delmonico says the most important thing is to lead by example. With childhood obesity skyrocketing, she says parents need to be the role models and serve healthy meals. She says kids will take those eating habits into adulthood.
