Injured SF Firefighter Dies

Sponsored by:

A San Francisco firefighter injured in a fall from a fire engine last week has died. A fire department spokesman says Melinda Ohler died yesterday at San Francisco General Hospital. Ohler had worked on the force for 13 years.

Department spokesman Barry Wong says Ohler died naturally and not because she was taken off life support. Last Wednesday´s accident happened when the fire truck carrying Ohler was on its way to a possible fire in the new people-mover transit system at San Francisco International Airport.

Ohler fell from the rear-facing seat on the back of the engine just minutes after leaving the station. Her seat belt was found unfastened.

The department says it´s not clear what happened, and the accident is being investigated.
