Hospital Has New Name

It´s Sonora Community Hospital no more. Hospital President Lary Davis announced the new name this afternoon during a much anticipated press conference.

“The new name is going be Sonora Regional Medical Center,” Davis announced to a small gathering outside the entrance to the new hospital´s emergency room.

Hospital officials have also pushed back the move-in date to this fall.

Project Coordinator Val Devitt this afternoon said the delay is to allow for the upgrading of equipment to state-of-the-art. Rather than waiting until after the hospital is finished, the hospital board and leadership decided to up-grade the facility now, even if it means several more months of delays.

Hospital officials are hoping state inspectors will make that possible by conducting the required certification of the facility and equipment on time, despite the threat of cuts in the state budget.
