Bald Eagles Found Nesting In The Stanislaus

Sponsored by:

The US Forest Service says officials have found a pair of nesting Bald Eagles living in the Stanislaus National Forest, at Beardsley Resevoir.

Forest Service spokesman Pat Kaunert says this is the first time in 40 years a pair of eagles has returned to their historic habitat to nest.

Officials say they don´t know of any other Bald Eagles living in the Stanislaus National Forest. The Forest service is now taking precautions to protect the birds, and officials say Beardsley Road will reopen to visitor recreation use as soon as possible in early March.

Officials will be watching closely, though, to make sure the Eagles nesting activities are not disturbed. Bald Eagles are listed as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act.
