Tanker Aground Near Stockton

Sponsored by:

The Coast Guard is planning today to refloat a tanker full of liquid fertilizer which ran aground in the Carquinez Straits on the way to Stockton. The ship got stuck Saturday morning. Coast Guard divers checked the vessel´s hull yesterday. They say there´s no damage and the 25,000 metric tons of ammonium nitrate fertilizer is not leaking.

Coast Guard officials say the Cefalonia got stuck about 15 miles west of Stockton at Webb Point. The Coast Guard is trying to figure out why the ship ran aground. It´s the second time for the Cefalonia – which got stuck earlier on a similar voyage to Stockton. Officials plan to try and get the ship moving again at high tide today.
