Squirrel To Blame For Power Outage

Sponsored by:

The large power outage this afternoon in Sonora and Groveland was caused by a squirrel. The varmint got into a substation in the Groveland area knocked two circuits off line and kicked off the electricity to more than 6,300 P G & E customers this afternoon.

PG & E spokeswoman Emily Barnett says crews are on site currently and they expect the power to be restored by around 1:30 p.m.

Sonora Police say some traffic signals are still not working in the area so motorists should be cautious at intersections.
