Bridge Jumper Identified

Sponsored by:

A 44-year-old man who survived a previous plunge off the Golden Gate Bridge 15 years ago in an earlier protest committed suicide off the span after decrying the war with Iraq. Authorities say Paul Aladdin Alarab of Kensington lowered himself with a rope and harness from the middle of the bridge yesterday and demanded to talk to the media.

Officers say he read from a statement opposing the war with Iraq. They tried for half an hour to coax him to safety when he suddenly let go of the rope and fell.
