School Looks for Bailout

Sponsored by:

Officials at a nearly bankrupt Oakland school district are asking lawmakers for $100 million, the largest school bailout in state history.

Oakland Unified School District officials blame high salaries, rising expenses and bad accounting for their woes. They say the district will run out of money by May unless the state approves the emergency loan.

If the bill is approved, it will be the second time this year that the state has bailed out a struggling school district.
