Storm Helps Snow Pack

A spring storm has dumped snow amounts unseen in the Sierra since mid-December, adding to a dismal snow pack. The lower elevation areas of the Mother Lode – drenched with persistent rain all weekend long.

South Lake Tahoe received 15 inches of snow. At the north shore, Incline Village picked up 18 inches.

Snow is falling in the Yosemite Valley this morning as well. And winter storm warnings continue in effect throughout the day, with snow accumulations of up to a foot above 7,000 feet by this evening.

Highway 140 between Highway 120 and El Portal is closed due to a rock slide.

California Highway 88 is closed this morning at the Carson Spur.

Interstate-80 is open with no controls. Earlier, traffic was held eight miles west of Reno with chains mandatory over Donner Summit. Chains are mandatory on U.S. 50 between Meyers and Kyburz.
