Court: Some Religious Materials OK at Schools

Sponsored by:

A federal appeals court has ruled that public school districts cannot automatically bar people from distributing religious literature on campus. Today´s decision by the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals concerns a policy of the school district in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The district prohibits anyone from posting or distributing literature with religious content at any of the district´s 33 schools. But the three-judge appeals panel stopped short of saying that all religious based literature is alright. It said advertisements that promote a religion could be barred from campuses. Those that simply advertise religious instruction– such as a Bible Camp– are okay.
