Wildfire Burns Near Carson City

A wind-whipped wildfire in the southwest foothills of Carson City Tuesday afternoon closed part of U.S. Highway 50 to Lake Tahoe and threatened several homes. Flames are visible along the highway and a tall plume of smoke is billowing over Carson City.
Sheriff´s authorities and Nevada Division of Forestry officials say they were preparing for “potential evacuations.” The blaze quickly grew from just five acres to more than 200 acres within a matter of a few hours. More than 60 firefighters and an air tanker were battling the blaze as of late Tuesday afternoon.
