Mountain Ranch Fire Still Burning

Sponsored by:

Calaveras-area firefighters and air tankers continue to battle a wildfire burning in San Andreas off Mountain Ranch Road this afternoon.

A California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman says as of about 5:45 p.m. Monday the fire had blackened nearly 85 acres of oak woodland. That fire was first reported just before 3 p.m. The blaze is burning on the north side of Mountain Ranch Road. Three air tankers are working this fire with one more on the way.

Still no estimate of when this fire will be contained.

Another fire in Tuolumne County this afternoon. A 2-acre blaze destroyed a small outbuilding on Shamut Road in the Chinese Camp area off Highway 49. Deb Fish with county fire said a quick response by local firefighters and air tankers out of Mariposa stopped the wind-driven fire. A barn and home were threatened at one time by the blaze. No word yet on cause.
