Measure I Forum Slated For Thursday

Sponsored by:

Voters decide this August, via mail-in ballot, whether to increase the sales tax in Sonora.

It´s called Measure I, and tomorrow, a public forum is being held at the Sonora Opera Hall to answer questions about it.

Ty Wivell is the president of the Historic Sonora Chamber of Commerce. He says if passed, there´s no question about where the additional tax money will go: to the police, fire and public works department.

“The actual tax has to go to those three things. Police will get 60%, the fire department gets 25%, and public works gets 15%. And it has to be spent that way and it has to be audited that way,” Wivell said.

City officials like Police Chief Mace Mcintosh, Fire Chief Mike Barros, and City Administrator Greg Applegate will be at the forum, to explain the facts behind the proposed sales tax hike.
