Oh Thank Heaven, Firefighters Save 7-Eleven

Two firefighters were injured this afternoon battling the fire at the Twain Harte 7-Eleven store in the downtown.

One Twain Harte Fire Department firefighter fell through the roof of the burning structure. The yet unidentified firefighters was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition with minor injuries. A second firefighter suffered heat-related complications. He was also transported to an area hospital.

The fire was first reported around 3:15 p.m. this afternoon, apparently started in the rear of the building. Employees working at the store say a customer alerted them that the store was on fire. There were five or six customers in the store at the time.

The fire was contained within an hour. The fire had the potential of being disastrous . Firefighters arrived within moments and established a water supply which greatly helped the firefighter efforts Fire Marshall Kari Hubbard said.

The fire spread into the attic of the wooden retail structure. Damage estimates have not been made available at this time, but according to Hubbard, the quick response by firefighters means that the building may be rebuildable.

No other nearby or attached businesses were affected by the fire.

Law enforcement was directing traffic through the area of Joaquin Gulley, Fuller and Twain Harte Drive right by the Twain Harte arch.
