Concerns Raised Over New Copper Development

Concerns are being raised about the proposed Copper Mill project off Highway 4 and Little John Road in Calaveras county.
Some say converting 27 acres of olives and vacant land into an array of shops and homes would be just the commercial boost Copperopolis needs. Others fear when combined with other major development plans in the works, the new project could rob the onetime copper boomtown of its small-town charm.
The Copper Mill project is in the early stages of environmental review by developer Castle and Cooke Calaveras Inc.
Copper Mill plans on the drawing board include a combination of commercial retail and residential space with about 84 new homes adding 300 people to the town´s growing population.
