Many Attend Peterson Memorial in Escalon

A cavalcade of motorcyclists and other community members converged on this Central Valley farm town Saturday to dedicate a memorial to Laci Peterson and the fetus she carried.

Some 2-thousand people gathered at a downtown park for a ceremony to unveil the memorial — a metal park bench donated by a local businessman.

Laci´s cousin Shawn Rocha says the family was “overwhelmed” by the turnout.

Earlier, members of Laci´s family led a motorcade of 1,700 motorcyclists.

Laci Peterson was eight months pregnant when she disappeared on Christmas Eve 2002.

Her body and that of the fetus she carried later washed ashore separately on the shores of San Francisco Bay.

Laci´s husband, Scott Peterson, was convicted of first degree murder in her death and second degree murder in the death of the fetus.

The sentencing phase of his trial is scheduled to begin this week.
