Farm Bureau Supports Ag Biotechnology

A stronger stand in favor of agricultural biotechnology resullted from policy discussions at the annual meeting of the California Farm Bureau.

Emily Robidart, associate director of farm policy at the Farm Bureau says they wanted to be more explicit about their support of biotechnology.

“We believe the technology provides new ways to ensure safe, affordable food for consumers while benefitting the environment,” Robidart said.

Robidart adds they realize consumer awareness is just as important as biotechnology itself.

“While discussing our policy, our delegates also stressed the need to increase consumer awareness of biotechnology´s many benefits and its vast potential.”

The new policy explicitly opposes the establishment of biotech regulations by individual cities and counties.
