Defendants Answer In CalCo Discrimination Case

Sponsored by:

A Calaveras County court case may have been filed too soon.

It´s a case of discrimination, filed by two female educators who are claiming they´re not being paid what they deserve compared to their male counterparts.

Assistant Superintendent Jackie Hamilton and Special Education Program Manager Cathy Stone-Carlson filed a complaint in November for damages for employment discrimination in Calaveras County Superior Court. The complaint is against the Calaveras County Board of Education and County Superintendent John Brophy, among others. In the complaint, it´s alleged male employees with lesser job responsibilities are paid more than the women in their supervisory roles. The pair seek back pay and “other money related to back pay,” interest on all sums due, attorneys´ fees, and costs of the lawsuit.

The Defendants´ Answer to Complaint filed in response to the suit lists 35 reasons why the court should not allow the suit to proceed. The main reason: that the pair failed to exhaust administrative options to get their problems solved.
