Trial Move Will Boost Local Economy, Add Problems

Sponsored by:

Tourism officials in San Mateo County are excited about the murder trial of Scott Peterson coming to the area.

The trial will be held in Redwood City, where local merchants say the spotlight will stimulate the sleepy downtown. An official with the San Mateo County Convention and Visitors Bureau says the trial could bring between $8 million to $16 million to the area.

Besides millions of dollars, the high-profile case will also bring a number of logistical problems to otherwise quiet community, including hordes of reporters and traffic problems. But city and court officials say they will be ready. The largest courtroom, seating 150 people has been set aside for the trial. Extra security will be available if needed.
