Olympic Swimmer Asks to Withdraw No Contest Plea

Sponsored by:

Swimmer Tammy Crow now wants to withdraw her no contest plea, a month after she was sentenced to 90 days in jail for the deaths of her boyfriend and a 12-year-old boy from Danville just over one year ago.

Last month, Crow submitted the no contest plea at a sentencing hearing in Tuolumne County Superior Court. Under the plea, she would have been given a 9 month delay to allow her to swim in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

However, now, Crow has hired a new lawyer, who filed a motion Thursday with the judge in the case. Attorney Michael Morrisey said in the motion that the case could cost Crow her olympic career. Also, he asked the judge to either allow Crow to withdraw the no contest plea, and give Crow a new post-Olympic trial date… or to change her sentence from jail time to a fine plus electronic monitoring, so she can continue her training in Santa Clara.
