Peterson Defense Faces Setbacks

Defense lawyers in Scott Peterson´s double-murder trial suffered double setbacks Tuesday.

The judge in the case ruled jurors will hear evidence collected by investigators using wiretap listening devices.

Jurors will also hear some, but not all, of the details gathered by scent-sniffing police dogs.

Defense lawyers had argued investigators violated Peterson´s attorney-client privilege when they listened to bits of conversations with his first attorney, Kirk McAllister.

Experts have said the dog-tracking evidence could be the most damaging to the defense.

Prosecutors insist the dogs picked up Laci Peterson´s scent in several places in the days after her disappearance, creating what authorities presented as the path Scott Peterson took to dump his wife´s body.

Defense lawyers wanted the evidence kept from the jury, claiming the dogs were unreliable.
