A woman was killed yesterday after a deadly mistake on Highway 120.

The CHP says 27-year-old Carol Wriglesworth was visiting from the town of Hull England with two friends.

After she made a U-turn on the highway just east of Groveland, she stayed in the eastbound lane, travelling westbound, when she hit a truck head-on.

Officer Tom Wills from the California Highway Patrol says it´s not the first time an accident like this has happened.

“Yosemite National Park is a major draw here, Columbia State Park, downtown historic Sonora is a draw. So we get people from all over the world here, and these things do happen, where we get people used to driving on the left side of the road,” said Wills.

The other two British tourists, Fiona McIlreavy and Marie Kelly, both 25 years old, were injured in the wreck.

McIlreavy was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with abdominal pain, and Kelly was taken to Tuolumne General with a broken left arm and injured right hand and foot.

The truck´s driver, 61-year-old Arthur Smith, was also taken to Tuolumne General with broken teeth and a broken right ankle.
