Update at 3:15 p.m.: A box truck crash on Highway 108 has turned into a double fatal. The CHP originally reported that the truck went over an embankment near Kennedy Meadows. Spokesperson Steve Machado says the collision actually happened near Deadman Creek closer to the Pacific Crest Trail-Sonora Pass Trailhead and the Mono County line. Machado tells Clarke Broadcasting, “We’ve confirmed that the two occupants in the vehicle have been pronounced deceased. It is undetermined on what the reason why or even how the vehicle got to where it’s at.”

The eastbound lane of the highway is blocked with emergency equipment and officers are directing traffic. Machado adds that it is unclear exactly when the crash happened, as the witnesses that reporting the incident did not see the accident happen and just spotted the truck down the ravine. Additionally, an alert had been sent out by Mono County Sheriff’s Office to be on the lookout for that truck.
