Military Officials Await DNA Results On Frozen Airman

Sponsored by:

Hickam Air Force Base, HI — Military officials are waiting for DNA tests to come back before they confirm the identity of a well-preserved body of an airman found encased in a glacier in the Sierra Nevada.

Experts have been able to read a name on a faded badge on the serviceman´s clothing, but they won´t reveal the name until they confirm the identity through DNA.

That could take anywhere from weeks to months. Members of the joint POW MIA Accounting Command have been examining the body at Hickam Air Force Base in

Hawaii since it was recovered last month in Kings Canyon National Park.

So far, they have narrowed their options to four men who flew out of Sacramento´s Mather Field on a training flight that disappeared in November of 1942.
