Sponsored by:

Blackhawk, CA — A Modesto man is recovering from injuries received from a highly unusual driving hazard.

Robert Brooks suffered a broken ankle after getting hit by a flying deer. Brooks was driving through the rural East Bay community of Blackhawk when he pulled his car over after he thought he had hit a deer.

The California Highway Patrol says as Brooks checked his car for damage, a car coming in the opposite direction hit a deer that might have been the same one that Brooks thought he had hit.

The impact sent the deer flying, hitting Brooks in the legs. He was treated for his injuries at a local hospital. As for the deer, it died at the scene.
