Calaveras Commission Denies Subdivision

Wallace, CA — The Calaveras County Planning Commission has denied the Wallace Lake Estates subdivision saying it needs more environmental review.

Developer John Reynen of Sacramento proposed to build 124 homes, making up the second phase of the already established development in Wallace.

During a public hearing Thursday, the commission heard from residents and environmental groups who were concerned about the project´s impact on the environment.

Officials indefinitely continued their decision giving the developer time to prepare a response.

In the meantime, county planners will meet with the developer to determine whether a complete Environmental Impact Report is necessary.

The alternative would be to undertake smaller studies for specific concerns, which involved wildlife, traffic, and water.
