Moon, Sun and Mountains Align Tonight To Relive Famous Ansel Adams Photo

Yosemite National Park, CA — Amateur photographers and astronomers are heading to Yosemite´s Glacier Point this evening to relive the scene captured in the famous Ansel Adams photograph “Autumn Moon.”

Astronomers have nailed down the exact time and date that Adams snapped the photograph in Yosemite National Park more than 50 years ago.

And they´ve determined that the sun, moon and mountains will return to the same positions tonight. The original photograph, “Autumn Moon: the High Sierra From Glacier Point,” depicts the moon hanging in the darkening sky above the jagged peaks of the Clark Range.

Texas State University astronomers concluded that Adams shot the photograph at 7:03 PM on September 15th, 1948 and that the scene repeats itself every 19 years.
