Sonora’s State of the City Presented

Last night at the Sonora City Council meeting, city administrator Greg Applegate presented the latest State of the City Address to councilmembers.

Applegate described one guideline of success used by the developers behind the Sonora Crossroads project.

“A successful commercial center is a center that has 80 % or better occupancy. In this case, we´re looking at better than 100 % occupancy,” Applegate said Tuesday.

And city revenue is also doing well. “Needless to say, our property tax is running ahead, construction permits, I think, way ahead, about 80,000 more than we had anticipated.”

And Applegate added, despite wavering financial projections from the state of California, the so-called Triple Flip money from the State should be on its way for the first time this year. “This is new ground that we´re treading on this year. And I think at this point [we´re] comfortable that the first reimbursement has been made, and it pretty much came almost on target of what we had anticipated.”

In addition, yesterday was the first meeting for newly-appointed Sonora City councilman Gary Anderson, who was sworn in last night by Tuolumne County Elections Clerk Tim Johnson.

He´s filling the seat left by councilwoman and former Sonora mayor Liz Bass, who´s now District One Supervisor for Tuolumne County.
