Yosemite National Park Reopens After Being Closed By Flood Waters

Sponsored by:

Yosemite National Park, CA — Yosemite National Park officials are saying the waters that closed the park yesterday are subsiding.

Deb Schweizer says the torrential waters peaked at about 5 PM yesterday and are now on the decline. She says the park has been re-opened and normal operations have resumed.

She says the river is still very high and advises anyone coming to the park to be vary careful near the water because some danger still exists. Schweizer says that although water levels have dropped almost two feet since last night, officials are keeping a cautious eye on the rivers and lakes in the park as more warm weather is expected.

She says there is an above average snowpack in the high country and the river could rise again. The last major flood in Yosemite was in 1997 when nearly 2 thousand people were stranded by flood waters.

There have been no reports of major damage or injuries.
