Update March 14, 9am: Donkey Basketball, the fund raiser for the Tuolumne Lumber Jubilee has been canceled according to Board President Aaron Rasmussen. The Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser for Sonora Elementary School Athletics happening now. Plenty of tickets still available, until 10am.

Update March 13, 4pm: The TuCARE dinner has been rescheduled for May 16th. The We are Tuolumne County Open House scheduled in Groveland has been canceled. The remaining dates and locations in the series of seven open houses is here.

Update 2:30pm:
Murphys Senior Center is closed until at least April 6th related to public health recommendations. Their fall prevention program ‘stay vertical calaveras’ has also been canceled until further notice. An overview of local community center closures is on our page here. The Family Volunteer Night at the ATCAA Food Bank for Monday, March 16th is canceled. Their website message says “We’ll see you all in April!”

Update 1:14pm:  Tuolumne County Museum and History Center will be closed for the next 60 days. The closure will be evaluated at the end of the 60 day closure.

Update 12:23pm: No changes to the event information below but an update on events and services that are provided to seniors. The Tuolumne County Administrator’s Office reports “Due to the Governor’s Executive Order regarding Coronavirus and the guidance concerning public gatherings the County has decided to cancel the March 21st “We Are Tuolumne County” forum previously scheduled at the Groveland Community Hall for 4 p.m.” They posted a video from the previous forum, you can watch the video by clicking the video icon link with the photo.

Nutrition Services

Based on recommendations to protect the health of our senior community from the coronavirus, Sierra Senior Providers, Inc. has closed the Senior Center and the Congregate Lunch programs in Sonora, Jamestown and Groveland.  Starting Monday, March 16th, meals will be made available at the Senior Center for Pick-Up Only for current congregate lunch participants.

The home delivery Meals on Wheels program is continuing without interruption and drivers are following recommended health and safety precautions.

The Senior Center is also closed to all classes, groups, activities and events until further notice.

Transportation Services

Common Ground Senior Services Silver Streak Transportation Program, continues to provide transportation to seniors over the age of 60 who have no other means of transportation. This service is for medical appointments only and are considered essential to the participant health and safety.  Drivers are following recommended health and safety precautions.

Senior Programs

Area 12 Agency on Aging has canceled all exercise programs in Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties until further notice. The Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) will conduct phone appointments only until further notice.  These program changes are to help protect public health and slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Update: March 13, 9:45am The Tucare dinner at the Sonora Elks Lodge has been canceled due to advised Coronavirus precautions. It has been scheduled for May 16th at the Elks Lodge. Next Saturday’s ‘Raise the Roof for Resiliency Village’ has also been canceled, organizers plan to choose a new date for the event soon.

The Sierra Waldorf “Totally 80s Auction” will have auction items available to see Saturday from noon to 6pm at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds, bidding will be online only until 6pm. Sunday the items can be picked up at the fairgrounds from 10am to 2pm. As reported below, the Donkey Basketball is scheduled as planned as is the Saturday Benefit dinner at the Sonora Moose Lodge.

March 12: A cold weather system is predicted to bring snow to the higher elevations this weekend as reported here and events have been canceled in the Mother Lode due to advised Coronavirus precautions. With the weather, you do not have to venture out to see what conditions are like in Sonora, we have four webcams and our two ‘Eye in the Sky’ cams are at an elevation of 1,000 feet. You can check out here.

Sierra Repertory Theater reports, “We are currently proceeding with performances of Camelot as scheduled. If you are unable to attend due to illness, please contact the Box Office to exchange for another date or production. Exchange fees will be waived during this time. Please do not come to the theatre if you are feeling unwell. We are monitoring local, state and federal bulletins and should circumstances call for performances to be canceled we will notify patrons by email or phone call.”

The 32nd annual TuCARE Dinner and Auction will take place Saturday March 14th at the Sonora Elks Lodge. TuCare was established to enlighten and advise the public on conservation and the wise use of our natural resources.

The Saturday Benefit dinner at the Sonora Moose Lodge is confirmed as going ahead as planned. Funds raised will help offset Baby Everett Carreras medical costs and his parents’ travel expenses. Ticket and more information is in the event listing here.

Saturday there will not be a Jamestown Run. The run was been postponed as a precaution and a new date set for the event has not been set yet. The Hurst Ranch Barn Party, Pine Mountain Lake Job Fair, and Age Well Drive Smart Senior Driver Education Class have also been canceled.

The Sierra Waldorf “Totally 80s Auction” scheduled for Saturday at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds has been canceled. Online bidding will still take place online. Saturday individuals may drop by to preview the items in person from noon to 6pm.

The Badges and Hoops Fundraiser and all Special Olympic events have been canceled through March 31st as detailed here.

Sunday according to President of the Lumber Jubilee, Aaron Rasmussen, unless there are significant local changes the Donkey Basketball is scheduled as planned. He says, “Make responsible personal decisions; this will get worse before it gets better but we will survive. It will only get out of control if people let it; one is by shutting down our society.”

The Donkey Basketball event has five, and is looking to complete a sixth, teams of six to compete in support of the Tuolumne Lumber Jubilee. Drinks, hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for purchase. Event details are here.
