Update: Winter Storm Watch Issued For Mother Lode, Sierra Nevada

A cold weather system will bring widespread snow to the Sierra Nevada this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the the Sierra Nevada and the Mother Lode above 2,500 feet, from Saturday morning through late Monday Night.

Snow will begin to develop on Saturday and become moderate to heavy at times from Saturday night through Monday.

Generally, snow levels will range from 2,000 to 4,000 feet.

Total snow accumulations around the 2,500 foot elevation could range from four to eight inches. Above the 4,000 foot elevation, the total snow accumulations will range from one to five feet.

Wind gusts will range from forty to forty-five mph over the Sierra crest. Visibility will be low at times.

If you have mountain travel plans please plan accordingly and keep up to date with the latest forecast. Expect chain controls, travel delays, and possible road closures.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
