Man Rescued From Apartment Fire

Sonora, Ca -The Sonora Fire Department was able to rescue man from an apartment fire tonight.

Residents were evacuated from 241 Hospital Road around 8pm. Captain Todd McNeal with the Sonora City Fire Department says that upon arrival the first units went inside and were able to rescue an occupant. They were also able to immediately confine the fire to the apartment of origin.

There was however smoke damage to the building, and the seven other occupants of the apartment who evacuated and are not allowed to sleep at the building tonight.

One of the seven residents who evacuated was Marlene Otto. She lives next door to the unit that started on fire, and was one of the first to notice the smoke. She says members of the fire department who responded are heroes for the way they were able to get everyone out so quickly.

The seven displaced residents were assisted by the Red Cross and taken to a hotel. The man who lived in the unit that caught fire was taken to area hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
