College Debate Team Fired Up And Ready To Win

Sponsored by:

Columbia, CA– The Columbia College debate team has been busy these past weeks tacking many controversial issues.

The team, under the tutelage of Dr. Tim Elizondo, recently went to the Santa Rosa Speech and Debate Invitational where the group was asked to discuss topics including, “do the ends justify the means when responding to terrorism.”

The two teams of Columbia College students competed in a field of over 35 statewide teams from two and four-year universities. From October 13th through the 15th, the teams argued and persuaded their way to capture the championship title. College students Trevor Wittke, and Zach Macbeth, finished the tournament with a record of nine wins and one loss.

The second team made up of Brittany Pugh and Caitlin Ellis lost in a 2-1 split vote in the tournament semi-finals to capture a close third place.
