Second Search Of Fowler Neighborhood

Valley Springs, CA — Calaveras County Sheriff’s Investigators are hitting the streets of the Valley Springs-Rancho Calaveras area for a second time in hopes of gathering new clues to the murder of eight-year-old Leila Fowler.

Sgt. Chris Hewitt says, “Right now we have 15 investigators out. That number is expected to increase. We have approximately 300 houses or so that we need to re-canvas. The purpose of this is to hopefully gather more information in the investigation and to contact people that may have not been contacted during the week. That is the reason we are doing this on Saturday because we are hoping that people will be home on the weekend.”

Investigators says someone may have seen something or even the killer. Hewitt says they hope to locate new witnesses or possibly jog the memories of people regarding last Saturday’s murder of Leila Fowler. He says they have specific questions they will be asking people, but he won’t reveal what those questions are at this time.

An autopsy of Leila Fowler showed she died of hemorrhaging and shock of stab wounds. Hewitt would not release any other information on the autopsy findings.
