A Vote To Change Voting Rights?

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA – The next time you head to the polls a photo ID may be needed.

A new proposed ballot measure would require Californians to show a government-issued photo-identification to make their vote count. In order to vote by mail, you would need to include your birthdate and the last four digits of your drivers license or social security number. The proposal also calls for election officials to verify the information before opening a ballot or counting a vote.

The Secretary of State has given the ok to the proponents of these proposals to begin collecting the needed 504,760 signatures to qualify for the ballot, which is equal to five percent of those that voted during the last Governor’s election. Proponents have until the end of May to collect the needed signatures.
