Sponsored by:

As already announced, September 21st the Yosemite Highway 120 Chamber of Commerce is hosting the biggest event of the year in Groveland; the annual 49er Festival and Chili Cook-off.

Carolyn Botell, Administrator for the Yosemite Highway 120 Chamber of Commerce was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” here. Saturday’s events begin in Groveland at 7am with a pancake breakfast at the Community Center hosted by the Odd Fellows and the Rebeccas, followed by the the annual parade down Main Street (Highway 120) beginning at 9am.

After the parade, most of the events will move to Mary Laveroni Community park with music, vendor booths, kids activities, live and silent auctions, beer, wine, the famous chili-cookoff, and other food too.

This weekend is also the 5th annual Great Sierra River Cleanup. Last year over 2,800 volunteers picked up trash along the Sierra Nevada that was left by Labor Day and summertime visitors. The event is sponsored by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) in partnership with 47 community organizations throughout the Sierra Nevada. Last year’s report on the clean-up is here.

Information about the statewide effort is here and the local event information is in the Stanislaus River Cleanup Day event listing here.

Boy Scout Troop 570 Pancake Breakfast will be at Applebees from 7am to 11am
All proceeds will fund upcoming Troop activities: camping, hiking, backpacking & other outdoor programs. For tickets and contact information view the event listing here.

Back to School 1861 will be held from 4pm to 7pm at Columbia State Historic Park-Historic Schoolhouse. Adults and children alike are welcome to tour the rarely opened upper floor of the “oldest two-story brick schoolhouse in the State of California”, and learn about students in the 1860s.
