Flash Flood Watch Issued For Sierra Nevada

Sponsored by:

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Sierra Nevada through late tonight.

Monsoon moisture will be moving into the region providing the fuel for heavy showers and thunderstorms today. Storms will be moving from the south southeast at less than 10 mph. Due to the slow movement and potential for heavy rain, flash flooding is possible.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

Monsoonal moisture will remain through Saturday and there is an increased threat of thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada.

A stray thunderstorm or two could wander out of the higher elevations and into the Mother Lode by Friday evening.

The threat of thunderstorms will diminish by Saturday night.
