Tuolumne County Begins Furloughs

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — If you need to take care of any county government business, you will likely have to wait until next week.

Most Tuolumne County government offices are closed this week due to worker furloughs. County Administrator Craig Pedro says it impacts around 300 county employees. In total, the workers have 15 furlough days for the year. He estimates the net savings over that period to be around $2.5-3 million.

Most county offices will be closed November 19-23, and December 24-January 4.
The furloughs do not impact emergency services, such as Sheriff, Fire and Ambulance. Snow removal services will also be available.

The Community Resources Agency office is closed, but inspectors will be able to respond to emergencies. You can contact the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch center at 209-533-5815, and they will call out an Inspector.

Health and Human Services will be open with limited staffing. For Behavioral Health, crisis walk-in services will be available by calling 209-533-7000.

This week, fiscal services will be open today through Wednesday from 9am-1pm. This includes the Clerk/Auditor/Controller, Treasurer and Recorder.

Animal Control will be open today through Wednesday, and Saturday November 24.
County Counsel will be on call to handle unscheduled court appearances. This week, the DA’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, and Probation Department will be open Monday through Wednesday.

All other county services and offices are closed. The furlough days were approved by the Board of Supervisors.
