Many Events On Super Bowl Weekend

There are many social events planned for this weekend from the Frank Salel Super Bowl Breakfast to an Open Garden Day.

The 28th annual Frank Salel Super Bowl Breakfast is this Sunday morning. Proceeds from the event put on by the Sonora 49er Rotary Club will help fund scholarships for graduating Sonora High seniors. The John Muir Building at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds will be decorated like a football field. For tickets and details read the news story “Begin Sunday With Annual Super Bowl Breakfast” here.

On Saturday meet with Tuolumne County Master Gardeners, for Open Garden Day. The event is held at the Demonstration Garden located at 251 So. Barretta Street in Sonora, sharing a parking lot with the Cassina High School Campus. The garden will be open from 10am to 1pm. The topics for discussion will be fruit tree pruning, rose pruning and soil prep for spring vegetable gardens. For contact information view the Open Garden Day event listing here.

The 29th Annual Orient Express Run will be held at the Chinese Camp Elementary school Saturday. The event benefits local Special Olympians and is held rain or shine. The one mile Family Fun Run begins at 9:00am. For more details view the Orient Express Run event listing here.

32nd Annual Regional Academic Decathlon will be held all day Saturday. Participating high schools include Bret Harte High School from Angels Camp, Mountain Oaks School from San Andreas, Sonora High School from Sonora, Summerville High School from Tuolumne, and Tioga High School from Groveland. More information is in Tuolumne County Superindentand Joe Silva’s blog here. Most of the competition is closed to the public except a part of the Super Quiz scheduled to start at 3:45pm. Three crab dinners are offered this weekend. The Mother Lode Shriner’s Crab Feed

will be held at the Sonora Senior Center All profits go to Shriner’s Hospital for Children. That event listing is here. The Copperopolis Lake Tulloch Lions Club Annual Crab Dinner Fundraiser is held at Black Creek Park on Saturday. More event details here. The monthly all You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast will be held on Sunday as well. The American Legion Post 58 hosts this event at the Tuolumne Country Veterans Hall in Sonora on the first Sunday of every month. Details are here.
