Carstens Fire Update

Sponsored by:

Mariposa County, CA — Fire fighters continue to make progress in the Carstens Fire near Mariposa. Cal Fire reports the fire is 70 percent contained with almost 2.5 miles of vegetation scorched. They say evacuation order have been lifted for all areas.

Cal Fire reports nearly 1,500 fire fighters are battling the blaze from the ground and air including 76 engines, 45 fire crews, 9 dozers, 14 water tenders and 7 helicopters. Many of those fire fighters are with the U.S Forest Service. According to the Sierra National Forest, they’re also helping out Mother Nature. Forest Officials say a crew in the Buckingham Mountain area found two great horned owlets Wednesday on the ground next to a fallen tree. Bulldozers were digging a containment line when they spotted the baby owls. The area was flagged so other crews would stay clear and later an area biologist took the owlets to a local rehabilitation facility. Sierra National Forest says the owlets are doing well, and they will be returned to their natural habitat when they are healthy enough.
