Closing statements are set in the trial of a man charged with attempted murder of a Jacksonville Jaguars player, who was shot several times and paralyzed in 2008.

Ex-convict Tyrone Hartsfield took the stand in his own defense Wednesday and the 33-year-old denied any involvement in the shooting of former offensive lineman Richard Collier.

Collier was shot multiple times as he sat in his car with a teammate outside a Jacksonville apartment house. He was paralyzed, and doctors had to amputate his left leg.

Closing statements are expected to begin Thursday and the case should go to the jury by the afternoon. If convicted, Hartsfield faces up to life in prison.
