3 hurt when boat runs aground on Catalina Island
AVALON, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say three people were injured, two critically, when their 22-foot power boat crashed at Arrow Point on Santa Catalina Island.
U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Adam Eggers tells City News Service an emergency call came about 7 p.m. Monday, reporting the vessel had run aground.
The injured were taken to mainland hospitals by Coast Guard and Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopters.
Fire officials say two of the victims were listed in critical condition. The third appeared to have minor injuries.
It was not immediately clear what caused the vessel to crash.
Officials say it's a power boat with a frame similar to a catamaran, but with two outboard motors attached to the stern.
Arrow Point is near Isthmus Cove, on the north side of the island's east-facing coastline.
