Fisher cautious about new college football playoff
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher says a postseason system that goes beyond the four-team playoff that starts next season could diminish some college football traditions and wear down players.
During his Tuesday news conference wrapping up the Seminoles' 34-31 victory against Auburn in the BCS championship game, Fisher says he's OK with the coming playoff, but he warns of drawbacks.
Fisher says playing in big bowl games such as the Sugar, Orange, Cotton and Rose is still a great accomplishment. He says: "We act like that's not a big deal now."
He added that the physical toll of playing major college football is greater than in the sport's lower levels, where playoffs can extend the season to 16 games for those that make it to the title game.
