Former California deputy convicted of child sex
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) -- A former San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy has been convicted of having a sexual relationship with a teen in the department's youth Explorer program.
The San Bernardino Sun reports (http://bit.ly/LdOVro) a jury took just three hours to return the guilty verdict Wednesday for Nathan Gastineau, who was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl he was in charge of training.
He had pleaded not guilty to 17 counts including lewd acts with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
Gastineau faces a maximum of 13 years in state prison when he's sentenced Feb. 28. His lawyer says he plans to appeal.
Deputy District Attorney Bobbie Mann said the young victim wanted to be a police officer.
