Los Angeles mayor's vehicle hits pedestrian
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A Los Angeles Police Department vehicle carrying Mayor Eric Garcetti has struck and injured a pedestrian in downtown Los Angeles.
The mayor's office said in a statement Tuesday that the woman who was struck was taken to a hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey referred calls to the mayor's office and said he could not release the pedestrian's condition. The mayor's office referred to the statement, which did not detail her condition.
The incident occurred at 12:20 p.m. as the vehicle traveled east on Second Street near Spring Street.
Garcetti's office says the mayor was on the phone and didn't witness the collision. He's been interviewed by LAPD investigators.
Garcetti says he wishes the woman a speedy recovery and will talk to her soon.
