Suspect who used baby as shield shot by deputies
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities say a man who shot his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend in the face later used his infant son as a shield before being shot by deputies.
City News Service says the man opened fire on deputies while holding the baby outside his ex's home in Willowbrook late Sunday.
Deputies held their fire until the woman managed to grab the child and bring him inside. Then deputies shot the suspect. He was hospitalized in critical condition. His name was not released.
The woman's new boyfriend, who was shot while sitting in a car, is expected to survive his injuries.
The child, about a year old, was not hurt.
Lt. John Corina described the case as a combination love triangle and attempted suicide by cop.
