CA police investigation carjacking kidnapping
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities in the San Francisco Bay Area are investigating reports of a possible carjacking and child kidnapping outside a grocery store.
The Oakland Police Department said in a statement Tuesday that just before 1 p.m., officers responded to reports of the incident outside a Safeway store in the 4100 block of Redwaood Road. Witnesses said the suspect entered the vehicle and forced the driver -- an elderly man-- to drive away. They said a teenage girl was in the rear seat.
The Oakland Police are asking for people to be on the lookout for a red 2001 Infiniti sport-utility vehicle with the California license plate 6JFM648.
The kidnapper has been described as a black male in his 40s, who is about 5-foot-7 and 165 pounds. He is wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans.
