3 killed 5 injured in San Diego crash
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Authorities say three people have been killed and five others injured in a four-vehicle collision on a San Diego County freeway.
California Highway Patrol Officer Art Platero tells U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/JPVzE4) the crash happened late Friday on the Interstate 805 transition ramp to state Route 52.
Platero says the three killed were male passengers in a Cadillac Escalade that went off the road, up a dirt embankment and struck a concrete pillar. The driver, also a male, was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Witnesses tell the CHP that the Escalade had been traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision.
After hitting the pillar, the SUV rolled back into traffic, causing a pileup of three other vehicles. Two other people were hospitalized with major injuries, and two with minor injuries.
