Arson fires have San Jose neighborhood on alert
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Residents of a San Jose neighborhood are on alert, as authorities search for a serial arsonist they believe is responsible for nearly a dozen small fires in the area.
The fires in the downtown area began last Wednesday. Targets have included homes and businesses and a church that was struck twice. No one has been hurt, and the damage has been described as minimal.
Authorities have released a sketch of a person of interest in the case. Surveillance footage obtained by KTVU-TV (http://bit.ly/1dkbDch) shows a man matching that description starting a fire on the porch of a home.
The news station reports that residents in the area have taken to patrolling the neighborhood themselves. San Jose fire Capt. Robert Brown said residents are also doing a better job of keeping the areas around their homes lit.
