California teenager arrested in newborn's slaying
MADERA, Calif. (AP) -- A teenager has been arrested in Central California on suspicion of killing her newborn baby after the infant was found wrapped in a plastic bag under a bathroom sink.
The 17-year-old girl was expected to be arraigned as an adult on Thursday.
Madera County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Erica Stuart says the teenager went to a hospital on Friday suffering from postpartum bleeding, but denied giving birth. It took investigators hours to learn where she lived because of a language barrier. The girl speaks a dialect from Oaxaca, Mexico.
Authorities found the dead baby under the sink at the girl's Madera home. Stuart says when the girl was confronted, she changed her story and said the child was born dead.
But Stuart says an autopsy determined it was born alive.
